Telisha lost 56 pounds
Telisha lost 56 pounds. She gradually gained weight over the course of five years and was also diagnosed with prediabetes and osteoarthritis by the age of 24. In November 2019, she began her health and fitness journey, and she is so proud of how far she’s come.
Over the course of five years, I slowly but surely gained 100 pounds. Even though I loved my body at my heaviest, I started developing problems. I was pre-diabetic and diagnosed with osteoarthritis at age 24! Being only 5’4″ and weighing 248 pounds, I knew that weight was too heavy for my body structure.
So, I set on my journey to a healthier lifestyle in November 2019. Since then, I have lost 56 pounds. I am so proud of how far I have come on my journey, and I’m excited to see how much further I can go to transform myself.
How did you change your eating habits?
I didn’t restrict myself from certain foods. I mainly did flexible dieting while ensuring that I did not go above 1500 calories a day. The exception was my bi-weekly cheat meals.
What is your workout routine?
I work out 3-5 days a week. I mixed up my workouts with cardio and weight lifting. When the pandemic hit, I still saw results by walking around my neighborhood and using smaller dumbells and resistance bands.
What is your current weight?
I weigh 192 pounds.
How long did your transformation take?
I have been on this journey for ten months now.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No weight loss surgery!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that slow progress is still progress. I can’t expect my body to change overnight.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
To the next beautiful, black woman trying to get healthy, I say keep in mind that it is a marathon, not a race. Forgive yourself when you make mistakes, and don’t wait to start tomorrow. Start today.
